Historic Preservation Requirements

NYCHA and the New York State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) performed a Historic Resources Survey and the SHPO determined that (37) NYCHA properties are listed or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. As per the 2018 Programmatic Agreement, any intervention superseding “in-kind” replacement at these developments requires consultation with the SHPO before beginning work.

Standard Notices

Standard Notices are technical guidelines used when creating contract documents. These technical guidelines are specific to NYCHA’s portfolio and have been developed and reviewed with the NYC Department of Buildings and other relevant agencies.

Specifications

Specifications define typical materials acceptable for use in NYCHA rehabilitation projects and are based on and complement NYCHA's Design Guidelines. They must be edited for each project to align with the actual site-specific conditions and to coordinate with assembly compatibility. The Specifications follow the SpecLink and CSI number and title convention, and should be used as a minimum baseline for architects, engineers, contractors and construction managers who are performing work on NYCHA properties.

Please note that these are not intended to be complete for all required specification sections but address major areas of construction.

For projects that have a system which is not included in the specification, the designer must create the section utilizing consistent formatting.
